New from the PRC: Become a self-advocate
Posted by Reeve Staff in Daily Dose on January 10, 2019 # Advocacy and Policy
One of the most important skills you can learn as a person living with paralysis or as a caregiver is how to speak up for yourself and articulate your needs. The Reeve Foundation, in partnership with Hollister Inc., has created a new brochure on self-advocacy to help with just that.
Our “Become a Self-Advocate” brochure are gives you tips on how to:
- Identify the issue(s) you need to resolve
- Investigate the issue(s) thoroughly
- Create a plan
- Take action
Whether you need to self-advocate with a medical professional, insurance company, employer or family member, it is important to remember that your opinions and desires matter and understanding the view of the other person or entity is what allows you to problem solve and find resolutions. You can access our free brochure by downloading it from our publications page or contacting an Information Specialist for a printed copy at 1-800-539-7309.
