Open enrollment starts Nov. 1 for Affordable Care Act insurance

There are many changes to the open enrollment period this year. Open enrollment to obtain health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) (often referred to as “Obamacare”) runs from Nov. 1, 2017 to Dec. 15, 2017 in most states. This period has been greatly shortened from past enrollment periods. There are a few states that have different enrollment end dates this time around, please see the Paralysis Resource Center’s fact sheet to find out which states have extended periods. In most states, coverage is effective starting Jan. 1, 2018. People affected by Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria will have until Dec. 31, 2017 to enroll.
