Peer & Family Support: Family Member and Caregiver Peer Mentor Training

Posted by Reeve Staff in Daily Dose on June 07, 2021 # Events, Peer & Family Support Program

The Peer & Family Support Program is currently seeking family members/caregivers of individuals living with a spinal cord injury (SCI) to become certified peer mentors. Drawing from their personal experience and knowledge, the program’s mentors offer hope, support, and a way forward to people impacted by SCI. Family member/caregiver mentors help parents, spouses, partners, siblings and adult children of loved ones with SCI face their own unique needs and challenges.

The Peer & Family Support Program mentors have at least a year’s experience as a family member or caregiver of someone living with paralysis; possess good interpersonal skills; have a positive outlook and are thriving in life; and are knowledgeable about resources available to the paralysis community. To become a mentor with the program, interested individuals must complete an online application; attend a virtual peer mentor training; agree to a code of conduct; and consent to a background check.

The Peer & Family Support Program will be holding a peer mentor training for family members/caregivers on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM ET The training will be held virtually so that participants can attend from their homes or offices. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please complete the online peer mentor application.
