“At PVA-WI, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, especially the joys of water activities. We are thrilled to partner with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation on their ‘Outdoors for Everyone’ initiative, which is breaking down barriers to water accessibility this summer. Through education, resources, and partnerships, we are creating inclusive spaces where individuals with paralysis and their families can fully participate in adaptive water sports. PVA-WI is committed to empowering our community to experience the profound benefits of nature on health and quality of life. We look forward to working with the Reeve Foundation to make a splash and ensure the outdoors is open to all.”
Our ‘Outdoors for Everyone’ partners at the Wisconsin Paralyzed Veterans of America, Inc. aim to improve the quality of life for our American veterans and others with spinal cord injury, dysfunction, or disease through our programs: Quality healthcare and access to benefits, adaptive sports and recreation, membership and outreach, advocacy and legislation, and research and education.

"Celebrating my Alive Day helps me bring joy to this day. My family, friends, and caregivers (nurses, therapists, PCAs/CNAs, and doctors) were there for me on the day of my accident and continue to be with me now. It is so wonderful to gather with many of them on this day to celebrate the Gift of Life. This celebration reminds me of the beauty and joy that life offers." - Rex A.W. Marco, M.D., Chief Medical Ambassador, Reeve Foundation

Why is #DigitalAccessibility important? Because there are 64 million Americans living with disabilities, and we are living in a digital age. Not considering and prioritizing things such as closed captions and alt-text means that certain users will not be able to access online spaces.
Ms. Wheelchair America 2024 Chandra Smith joined Ariana Aboulafia, the Policy Counsel for Disability Rights in Technology Policy at the Center for Democracy & Technology, and Henry Claypool, the Technology Policy Consultant for the American Association for People with Disabilities, in presenting on disability and technology at #ReeveSummit2024.
Chandra is an IT engineer and 508 compliance officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Her Ms. Wheelchair America, Inc. 2024 platform focuses on digital accessibility. As Chandra says, “We need to create an environment that serves everyone.”

“Art is so important because it gives us an outlet to express ourselves. It gives us a reason and a mode for our emotions. Art is very healing, and it’s helped me become the person I am today.”
Celebrate #DisabilityPrideMonth with Kemi Yemi-Ese, an artist and therapist living with paralysis. Kemi was a featured presenter at #ReeveSummit2024, where she shared adaptive art techniques such as using special grips to hold oil pastels or paintbrushes.
Looking for a way to create art with limited mobility? Try this: Use tape to attach your medium (such as an oil pastel or paintbrush) to a longer paintbrush or stick. Adjust thickness by adding more sticks or foam. Follow @kemisart for more adaptive art techniques!
