Respecting your privacy

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation respects your privacy. We do not collect personal information from you unless you offer it.

Our intention is to provide an informative tool for those interested in spinal cord injury research, clinical trials and active lifestyle issues related to paralysis, the Reeve Foundation Quality of Life grants, information about Foundation activities, and to allow our supporters to become more involved in our mission.

We recognize that visitors to our site may be concerned about the information they provide to us and how we treat that information.

“Cookies”

The Foundation uses "cookies" -- codes that allow us to recognize your computer when you visit our website. We collect and store only anonymous information about your computer and mode of Internet access, including the name of the domain from which you access the Internet, the date and time you access our site, how long you stayed on our site, and the Internet address that brought you to our site.

We track this information to improve the usefulness, value, and navigation of our website.

The Foundation uses cookies to identify members -- those who register with our website and are given a password. This allows access to areas of our website and certain publications without requesting a sign in form each and every time.

Online donations

The Reeve Foundation takes very seriously the protection of sensitive materials regarding online donations.

We work with vendors to secure transactions according to industry standards using generally agreed upon methods of encryption and encoding. Personal information is stored in a database with reasonable protections in place against privacy breaches using multiple "firewalls."

Any vendors affiliated with the Foundation are held to industry-standard practices including, without limitation, confidentiality.

Personal information

We reserve the right to email you for fundraising efforts unless you expressly request not to be emailed. Our emails are never sent unsolicited. Unsubscribe information can be found at the bottom of every email sent.

Your Data Rights, As Expressed by GDPR

All individuals have rights regarding data that is identified or connected to their identity (“Personal Data”). The European Union’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) describes these rights in law, but Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation believes they apply to all individuals. They include:

  • You have the right to clear and transparent communication about your Personal Data. We want to make this policy as clear as possible and provide a friendlier version to help you understand it.
  • You have the right to request a copy of your Personal Data in a common digital format. To request this information, please contact our communications team.
  • You have the right to edit or correct any Personal Data. You can edit most of your information on the site. If you need help with this, contact our communications team.
  • You have the right to request that your Personal Data be deleted. To do this, contact our communications team.
  • You have the right to be notified of any breach involving your Personal Data. We will notify the appropriate data protection authority within 72 hours of detecting a breach involving your data. We will notify you as soon as possible after that.
  • You have the right to object to the processing of your data. You may decline any consent request to share Personal Data with a Partner and this will have no impact on your use of the service. For clarity, we may still share with our Partners data regarding you that does not identify you and is not connected with you (“De-Identified Data”). You may withdraw consent at any time, though that will not change any processing that has already occurred or research where analysis has started or is completed. You may also request to close your account at any time.

In some cases, these rights might be restricted. Some examples would include where the information requested compromises the privacy of another individual or is the subject of legal proceedings or investigation. Additionally, processing that has already occurred cannot be undone. Further, these rights to edit, delete, be notified of a breach, and object to processing all apply to Personal Data and do not apply to De-Identified Data that, for example, has been shared by us with our Partners and Vendors.
